Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,658,993 views a day, 41 times a normal first day on this channel (40,442).

Trump-GOP Infighting Erupts, Kennedy Calls Trump an "A-hole," Trump Doxes Tom Cotton: A Closer LookTrump-GOP Infighting Erupts, Kennedy Calls Trump an "A-hole," Trump Doxes Tom Cotton: A Closer Look

Seth Meyers spent Monday night's A Closer Look on a party arguing with itself. The segment's title lays out the evening: Trump and the GOP at odds, a Kennedy calling the president an "A-hole," and Trump doxing Tom Cotton, the Arkansas Republican. The show's own summary frames it as Trump hitting the campaign trail amid midterm election panic.

The clip went past a million views well inside its first day and has kept going since. As we reported here, this is now a familiar pattern for the show: A Closer Look has been doing the heavy lifting on the channel for much of the past week, and this is the latest installment to make the leap.

The comments came in roughly four times faster than on a typical first day, and they mostly gather around one thread of the segment, Trump's talk about his own intelligence. Many viewers point to how often he has repeated his line about the letter b in "dumb," and others bring up his favorite reference to MIT. A few write about something more local: one audience member in the studio whose cheering, they say, can be heard throughout.

That intelligence theme ran through the whole night. Monday's monologue, "Trump Announces Super Intelligence Force," built on Trump's puzzling remark about the vegan diet of James Talarico, the Democratic Senate candidate, and drew a big crowd of its own. The show also cut a short from the Closer Look, "Trump is obsessed with his own 'intelligence'," built around the same idea.
