Trump on the midterm trail and a Battleground Tracker poll lead CBS Mornings' Monday

Nancy Cordes and Anthony Salvanto's report on a poll that gives Democrats the edge drew more comments in half a day than the channel's clips usually see in a week of first days.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 196,235 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (15,448).

"Trump faces mounting disapproval as he hits midterm campaign trail" is a short political report cut from Monday's broadcast. It passed 150,000 views in its first 14 hours, more than ten times what a new clip on CBS Mornings usually gathers in a full day.

Nancy Cordes and Anthony Salvanto present the latest CBS News Battleground Tracker poll. The description sums up its finding: Democrats hold the advantage over Republicans ahead of the midterms, and voters disapprove of the president's handling of the economy and inflation.

The comment section moved even faster than the views. A regular clip here usually collects a handful of comments on its first day. This one had more than 300 within hours. Much of the talk comes back to grocery prices and the promise to bring them down, and to November. At least one viewer adds a note of caution: polls, they write, have let them down on election night before.

It was not the only report from Monday to travel. Skyler Henry's update from Tennessee also ran well ahead of the channel's usual pace. In it, the head of the state's prison system is stepping down after last week's botched execution of Christa Pike, and Gov. Bill Lee has ordered an independent investigation. Charlie D'Agata's report on the Pentagon pulling all its bombers from RAF Fairford in England, after a security incident last month, did the same.

All three stood out on a day when the channel as a whole was moving at well under half its usual daily pace. The morning's softer segments, Howie Mandel talking with David Begnaud about living with OCD and Michael Lewis on his new book about DOGE, have so far stayed around ten thousand views or fewer.
