Deep snow in October: Kusk Bushcraft's winter camp keeps finding viewers
No new trips went up, and a February overnighter in the Canadian backcountry, built around a minimalist open shelter, is the one people are watching most.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Deep Snow Winter Bushcraft - Minimalist Open Shelter Camp
Kusk Bushcraft posted nothing new this week, and the channel barely noticed. A usual day here brings in around 20,000 views from the back catalog, and this week's days looked almost exactly like that, with the subscriber count holding at 624,000.
The video doing the most work is a winter one, which is a funny thing to be watching while the leaves are still coming down. "Deep Snow Winter Bushcraft - Minimalist Open Shelter Camp" is about seven months old: one night in the Canadian backcountry, good weather, and a simple camp built to be comfortable rather than clever. Perhaps viewers are already planning their own cold-season nights out.
Just behind it is a late-summer trip, "Can I SURVIVE? Canvas Tarp & Traditional Gear VS. Rainstorm!", filmed in Alberta. The description lists a kit that is mostly old-fashioned or handmade: an eight-foot waxed cotton tarp, a homemade Trapper Nelson-style pack, waxed cotton pants with leather knees and a small double-bit hatchet. It also adds a note on the area's bears, wolves and mountain lions. In all his years out there, he writes, he has never come close to using his bear spray, and he has never met another camper.
The third is older than it looks. A solo winter tarp camp with plenty of campfire cooking was filmed around 2018 and taken down nearly five years ago. It is back as a re-upload, and the description hints that a few more old episodes may follow.
Among outdoors and homesteading channels of similar size, the busy weeks belonged to others. Welker Farms ran far above its usual pace, and Canada in the Rough was up too. Kusk sat near the quiet end, much like Cavy Fishing, which is how a channel with no uploads and a promise of "no frills" tends to spend a week.
