Brian Altano says goodbye to IGN on Nintendo Voice Chat 830
The episode runs through twenty Nintendo stories, from Ocarina of Time's map to Metroid Ravenous amiibo, before it turns to a send-off for one of its longest-serving voices.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
20 Big Nintendo News Stories You Shouldn’t Miss - NVC 830
Brian Altano spent his last day at IGN on two shows. On Beyond, he and Max Scoville looked back at their favorite memories of covering PlayStation. Then he sat down with Logan Plant for Nintendo Voice Chat, the busiest of the channel's five uploads this week, at more than 70,000 views.
Most of NVC 830 is a catch-up after three weeks away: eight-player Mario Kart, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, an early look at Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, and the newly revealed world map for Ocarina of Time. The last chapter is called simply "Sending Off Brian Altano," and the description promises updates on the show's future. That is what the comment section talks about. Longtime listeners, some going back to 2014, write that NVC will no longer be weekly. Many ask Brian to start a podcast of his own, and a few are already wondering where they will hear his take on the Ocarina of Time remaster in November.
The rest of the week had a strong Xbox and Star Wars flavor. Ryan McCaffrey and Michael Higham gave Gears of War: E-Day a spoiler-free rave on Unlocked, and Beyond's crew made the case for Galactic Racer as the cure for Star Wars fatigue. Game Scoop!'s Omega Cops went back to Perfect Dark and Banjo-Tooie for part two of "Games of Our Lives."
Views across the channel ran well below their usual pace, at under half the typical daily level. That was the common story among gaming news channels of a similar size, where only runJDrun was busier than normal. Six weeks of NVC history will be hard to top, but this episode was a fitting place to close Brian's chapter.
