Things we can learn from the video
Press to jump
- 0:56Waterproof ratings and breathability help explain the trade-offs in winter riding clothes.
- 2:27Rich demonstrates layers ranging from thermal base clothing to boots and gloves.
- 7:49Mudguards, sintered brake pads and frame protection prepare the bike for wet conditions.
- 11:41Rich suggests dropping tire pressures by a couple of PSI for winter terrain.
- 13:26He suggests faster rebound settings to account for suspension oil thickening in cold weather.
- 14:14The post-ride routine includes washing, scrubbing, drying with an electric air duster and applying wet chain lube.
GMBN Tech put the less glamorous side of winter riding to work: keeping fingers warm, protecting the bike and dealing with the muddy aftermath. Rich Payne's "Don't Let Winter Stop You!" was the week's most watched new upload, reaching roughly 62,000 views.
Rich moves from clothing layers at the back of his van to tire choices and brake pads in the "Payne Cave," with muddy forest riding between the explanations. His reminder to "be bold, start cold" comes before the workshop adjustments. Afterward, an electric air duster joins the cleanup routine, followed by wet chain lube. The ride isn't quite finished when you get home.
Viewers bring very different winters to the conversation. An Arizona rider describes discovering the sound of mud on a brake rotor, while a Pennsylvania commenter raises the damage caused by riding trails with peanut-butter-like mud. Another reckons a rainy outing needs to be long enough to justify all the cleaning afterward.
That cleanup has a second life in "Rich's perfected recipe for cleaning ya bike! 🫧🚲", currently the channel's busiest individual upload. Among longer videos, the new Tech Show with Owen and Adam is gathering views faster than Rich's winter guide, pairing motivation tips with a safety bulletin concerning select RockShox ZEB forks.
Elsewhere, Owen and Fergus explore cockpit and geometry changes in "Want To Wheelie Better? Try This!", including the compromises those adjustments bring to ordinary trail riding.
Subscribers held steady over the week, while current daily views are below the channel's usual level. Its roughly half-million weekly views sit close to BleepinJeep's total in the broader off-road group. For GMBN Tech, practical winter preparation supplied the week's strongest new viewing.

What viewers say
Well if I have to go out in the wet and rain it has to be a long ride so it helps me feel it is worth all the cleaning I have to do afterwards 😅
@bikenboatartSee it on YouTubemy part of Arizona hardly ever gets rain, and when it does, you can't always get out there. finally, a couple days ago the timing was right, and I rode in the rain and for the first time, I heard what it sounds like to have mud on your rotor, like nails on a chalkboard.
@jakebrakebillSee it on YouTubeHere in PA the mud is the consistency of peanut butter and riding through it is devastating to the trails when they dry out.
