More than a dozen surrogate-born children at the center of an Arcadia abuse case on FOX 11
The station's report on the couple's arrest drew far more viewers than its other news, and a second video on the same case also ran well ahead of usual.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 144,577 views a day, 19 times a normal first day on this channel (7,560).
Arcadia couple arrested in surrogacy child abuse case involving more than a dozen children
An Arcadia couple now faces child abuse and conspiracy charges in a case involving more than a dozen children born through surrogates. FOX 11 Los Angeles posted its report on the arrest, and within 14 hours it had passed 110,000 views. A regular-length report on this channel usually ends its whole first day with a small fraction of that.
According to the video's description, law enforcement found the children living in abusive conditions inside the couple's home in Arcadia, a city in the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles. A separate FOX 11 report on the same case adds that the couple pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. That second video also drew many times its usual audience, and a Good Day LA segment covered the case as well. On a day when the channel as a whole ran quieter than normal, this was the story its viewers kept coming back to.
The comment section moved much faster than usual. Most viewers are asking questions the short report does not answer: why anyone would arrange for so many children, how the situation went unnoticed for so long, and why bail is possible in a case like this. Many also write about the children's safety.
The same day brought FOX 11 another busy report, on President Donald Trump suggesting at a campaign rally that Iran could "take out" Los Angeles and San Diego. The Arcadia case drew more than twice as many viewers.
