Abandoned RVs meet the bulldozer in South LA, on FOX 11

A short clip of the city's cleanup became the station's most watched new video in a fifteen-upload week that also covered a Catalina Island helicopter crash and a vigil at Franklin High.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Abandoned RVs being crushed on a South LA street are not usually what a Los Angeles station's audience gathers around. This week they were. The city's cleanup, in which crews bulldoze several RVs left on the streets, passed 40,000 views in its first day and became FOX 11's most watched new upload.

The comment section is less about the machinery than about time. The most liked reply points out how long one of the RVs had sat there, and asks why a private car left too long would be towed within the week. Others bring up expired tags, junkyards that will not take old RVs, and the timing, with several viewers reading the cleanup as a sign of election season.

The rest of the week was heavier. A vigil at Franklin High School in Highland Park, for an 18-year-old student who died after a fall from a fourth-floor balcony, came close behind, and a second report from the same evening drew its own audience. The station followed the search after a REACH medical helicopter crashed off Catalina Island, and on Saturday it reported an arrest in the shooting death of a Culver City bus driver in Mar Vista.

All of it has the channel running at well over twice its usual daily views. Among local stations, the busiest week belongs to KTLA 5, across town, while FOX 13 Tampa Bay is running close to three times its normal pace. FOX 11 sits third by subscribers in that group, with about 1.4 million.
