Oliver Solberg hadn't been briefed. "I had no clue until I went on that stage, like you guys," he tells DirtFish at Toyota's launch, giving its only new upload of the week a revealing little moment amid the big announcement.

Toyota is splitting its 2027 World Rally Championship effort into Toyota Racing, running the GR Celica Rally1, and Gazoo Racing Toyota, running the GR Yaris Rally1. Jari-Matti Latvala explains that the identities and cars will differ, but mechanics and staff will be shared. His aim: "We want to double the excitement for everybody, even for our drivers, our team, but also the fans."

DirtFish gets reactions across the lineup, from Ott Tänak discussing his Toyota return to Kalle Rovanperä looking forward to teammates Tänak and Takamoto Katsuta. Asked how much say he had in the team assignments, Elfyn Evans supplies the shortest answer: "Zero." The report has reached roughly a quarter-million views, with viewers discussing Toyota's commitment and hoping other manufacturers will join it.

The channel added about 2,000 subscribers across the week, although daily viewing is currently a little below its usual pace. Among nearby motorsport and off-road channels, DirtFish had the second-largest weekly view gain; Live The Dash also had a substantial week, while GMBN Tech's subscriber count held steady.

Toyota's launch report carries the strongest daily momentum on DirtFish. Behind it, the Ford factory-return explainer continues finding viewers, alongside the Short of Sébastien Loeb testing Project Rally One's car. After the championship finale covered here last month, the machinery and lineups of rallying's next chapter are supplying plenty to explore.

What viewers say

  • Toyota: "Fine, I'll do it myself"
  • I once heard a Finn say: "In life there is rallying, and waiting for rallying, therefore in the gap between now and Monte, lets not speculate, lets just concentrate on the waiting".

So that's what I'm doing now, concentrating on the waiting..
  • Is there any manufacturers in any series worldwide which has both red bull and monster backed drivers in the same team?

  • Big up to Toyota for not letting the sport die and bridging the gap until new manufacturers get onboard. And it's gonna be hugely exciting to see all these top drivers battle it out with identical cars.

  • I hope that management of and the sport itself recognizes Toyota's contribution here. This is quite remarkable, impressive and worthy of praise. It certainly never had to happen but here we are.
  • So excited to see Tanak back 🔥🔥🔥🔥

  • I feel like they did this because of the hesitation of other companies to dip their toes back into the WRC. I really hope some other companies decide to come back to rally soon, Subaru and Mitsubishi really need to get back in it. Peugeot and Lancia need to get back in it. Even Audi and Renault could come back.
