China, Hong Kong and a crypto 'supercycle' from Solana Company's Joseph Chee
Alongside the crypto talk, France ran through the week's uploads, from Marine Le Pen's economic plans to the IMF's Kristalina Georgieva telling Paris to get its house in order.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
China reopening crypto access could trigger supercycle: Solana Company CEO
Crypto carried the week. Of the fifteen uploads, the two that drew a real crowd were both Squawk Box Asia segments about digital money, posted on the same day. Yesterday's note covered Tom Lee and his "transitory" bond yields. The other one has since become the busier video.
In it, Joseph Chee, chief executive of Solana Company, argues that crypto could enter another supercycle if China finds a way to manage the risks and reopens access to trading and wider blockchain use. He also suggests Beijing seems to be treating Hong Kong as its testing ground. Tom Lee's interview got off to the faster start, but Chee's is now gathering views at more than twice its pace, and the two sit side by side at around 100,000 views each.
The rest of the week belonged mostly to France. One panel followed the euro to a 17-month low and the widest French-German bond spread since the eurozone debt crisis, with Marine Le Pen setting out her economic vision. A day later Kristalina Georgieva, speaking to CNBC in Singapore, called the French budget plans an important signal. From London, former Bank of England chief economist Andy Haldane described Britain as a hostile environment for all borrowers.
It all adds up to a busy stretch: daily views are running at close to double the channel's usual level. Among the money and business channels nearest its size, that is rare right now. Most of them, Neil McCoy-Ward and Sabri Suby included, are below their usual pace, and only EntreLeadership is also running above its own. Subscribers rose modestly, leaving the channel a few thousand short of half a million.
