Video taking off 46x its usual first day

Tom Lee calls the bond-yield jump "transitory," and viewers know that word

The Fundstrat strategist's Squawk Box Asia interview filled a comment section that usually stays nearly silent, and a crypto segment from the same morning came close behind.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 95,098 views a day, 46 times a normal first day on this channel (2,086).

Equity and crypto rallies suggest bond-yield surge is transitory: Fundstrat's Tom LeeEquity and crypto rallies suggest bond-yield surge is transitory: Fundstrat's Tom Lee

"Equity and crypto rallies suggest bond-yield surge is transitory: Fundstrat's Tom Lee" is a short cut from Squawk Box Asia, CNBC's morning markets show out of Singapore, and it is the busiest thing on CNBC International Live. It passed 80,000 views in its first 17 hours, far beyond what a single segment usually does here.

Lee is Fundstrat's head of research and chairman of Bitmine, and he has long been one of Wall Street's best-known optimists. His case is simple. Worry about rising U.S. bond yields is overblown, he says, because the Nasdaq is at record highs and crypto is rallying. He adds that stocks can live with 5% yields as long as real growth stays strong.

One word in the title did most of the work below the video. Many viewers hear an echo of 2021, when the Federal Reserve called inflation "transitory" before Jerome Powell said it was time to retire the term. On this channel a video normally collects a couple of comments on its first day. This one passed a hundred, with jokes about the word, arguments over where yields go next and a few readers running their own math on S&P 500 earnings.

It was not the morning's only crypto story. An interview with Joseph Chee, chief executive of Solana Company, on how China reopening crypto access could set off another "supercycle" also ran far ahead of the channel's usual start. Last week the attention was on oil. This time the crowd came for Bitcoin talk and bond yields.
