Shopping, menus and calling an ambulance: ChitChat English's 50 everyday phrases

The phrase list went up on October 7, five days after a beginners' lesson built on real-life conversations.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

A usual day on ChitChat English brings in around 26,000 views, and lately the channel has been running closer to 16,000. The newest upload is the one doing something about it. "50 Essential English Phrases You Need Every Day | Speak English Naturally" picked up more than 800 views in its first 14 hours, which already puts it ahead of anything else on the channel in daily pace.

The lesson is built like a survival kit for a first trip abroad. The description sorts the phrases by situation: prices, sizes and receipts in a shop, asking for the menu and the bill in a restaurant, asking someone to repeat or explain, and the ones nobody hopes to need, for a doctor, the police or an ambulance. It is pitched at A1-A2 learners, the two beginner levels of the European scale most language courses use, and the method is the channel's usual: listen, repeat, say it until it comes naturally.

The week's other upload, "Learn English Through Real-Life Conversations | English Speaking Practice for Beginners," went up on October 3 and has passed 3,800 views. Behind both, an older set of dialogues keeps turning up: "Everyday English Conversations You Can Actually Use | A1–A2," with its pizza delivery order, an eye doctor visit and the always useful question of where the bathroom is.

Subscribers rose by about 2,000 over the week, to 451,000. Among the education and explainer channels around its size, the map channels set the pace, with Geo All Day and Survive History far out front, while Mondly by Pearson, the closest fellow language channel, had a week of much the same shape as ChitChat's: a little under its usual pace.
