Mill Valley workers build a wooden wall against rising tides
KPIX's Drew Andre reports from a partly flooded road as the Bay Area's coastal flood advisory is extended through Saturday.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 41,600 views a day, 19 times a normal first day on this channel (2,186).
Coastal flood advisory extended as record high Bay Area tides continue
KPIX reporter Drew Andre finds a practical response to the encroaching water in Mill Valley: workers putting up a wooden flood wall near a business center off Highway 101.
His report follows the tide onto the Sausalito Mill Valley path and toward Miller Avenue, where water has already closed a traffic lane. The National Weather Service has extended the coastal flood advisory through Saturday, leaving shoreline communities preparing for more high water rather than simply clearing up after the last round.
Andre says the flooding has not yet reached the previous day's levels, when a vehicle stalled and needed rescue. But the barrier-building shows the work underway to keep another tide from reaching businesses.
The report drew nearly 22,000 views in eight hours, already far beyond KPIX's usual full-day audience for a regular video. It continues the station's coverage of Marin's flooded roads, this time showing workers trying to hold the water back.
Meteorologist Jessica Burch broadens the picture beyond Mill Valley, mapping coastal advisories and warnings along California's shoreline and identifying beach erosion and rough water as continuing concerns.
