Pupusas, a burrito and one stained shirt: 'Lunch In My City'

The LA lunch-break eater's tour of his own neighborhood has passed 465,000 views, and a pizza hunt posted on Sunday is moving faster still.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Eight hours after it went up, "Best Pizza in LA?!" already had about 145,000 views, which makes it the quickest starter on 1 Hour Lunch Break right now. The title asks the question every pizza video in Los Angeles asks, and the answer is in the video, not the title.

The week's most watched upload, though, is the other one. "Lunch In My City" is a local spread: pupusas, beans, a burrito and the pickled cabbage that one viewer helpfully names as curtido. The comments read like a neighborhood map. People trade their own pupusa spots, one argues for Van Nuys over Burbank, and another remembers the pupusas a Salvadoran friend's grandmother used to make after church. Several viewers praise how he says the dish names. And a running joke has formed around a small casualty: for once, his shirt did not make it through lunch clean, and plenty of viewers admit that was the most satisfying part.

Older food is still on the table too. "Hyped Up or Worth The Bite?!", eight days old, has passed a million views and keeps pace with the pupusa video day by day.

The channel as a whole ran a little below its usual daily pace, with subscribers ticking up gently, now around 932,000. Among food channels of a similar size, Antojitos LindaMar and Caked by Rach are the ones having a big week.
