Surf smelt and a fish-burying Roscoe: Taku's 'Nobody Talks About These Fish!'
A second beach-camp video on the same little-loved catch went up days after the first, and the comments filled with family memories of dip nets and lanterns on the shore.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Nobody Talks About These Fish!
"Nobody Talks About These Fish!" is Taku's case for surf smelt, the small silver fish that run up West Coast beaches, and on Outdoor Chef Life it drew more than 100,000 views on its first day. It comes hard on the heels of "The MOST UNDERRATED Fish on the West Coast | Beach Camp," posted a few days earlier, so this is a channel making the same argument twice. Both videos are now close to 180,000 views each.
The comment section reads like a family album. Viewers remember fathers who followed the seagulls to the smelt runs in Northern California, a grandfather's old dip net frame, cane poles and lanterns on a dock at night, and rainbow smelt fried on the Chicago shoreline. Several share their own tricks, such as pulling the spine to turn each fish into a boneless butterfly. One remembers that fresh smelt smell like watermelon.
Roscoe, the grey-muzzled dog, gets nearly as much attention as the fish. Viewers noticed him burying his share in the sand, and one decided he simply understands how to keep a catch fresh. Others say they had never seen Taku so fired up on a hookup. Jocelyn gets her own hellos too.
The week's other upload, "We Made it!", stayed much smaller. Overall the channel ran well under its usual daily pace and added about a thousand subscribers. Among the cooking channels near its size, Sam Jose is the one having the big week.

@CraftKaizenSee it on YouTubeGooood Dog 🐕😂 Burying the fish hides the scent and preserves the fish. He understands the assignment!
@StevenBaisley-l9eSee it on YouTubeI still have my grandfather's old dip net frame. Net's rotted off, so I use a cast net. He swore the night smelt were way better.
