Likud celebrates as Eisenkot supporters confront election disappointment
Election-night reports in Israel showed relief at Likud headquarters and fading optimism among Gadi Eisenkot’s supporters. Coalition scenarios and allegations of foreign funding for voter mobilisation also drew attention.
Contrasting election nights
- Kan News, Israel’s public broadcaster, followed Likud activists from anxiety to celebration. Benjamin Netanyahu called for a strong right-wing national government and accused television channels of manipulating public perceptions.
- News 13, the news company of Israel’s Channel 13, showed celebrations at Eisenkot’s Yashar! headquarters turning to disappointment as results came in. Former hostage Ohad Ben Ami spoke of hopes for a new government.
- Kan’s separate report showed supporters cheering initial exit polls, then worrying about another election as updated projections narrowed the gap between the blocs.
