עסקה לא שגרתית: נאשם ברצח בארה"ב הציע להודות באשמה בתמורה לכריך צ׳יזסטייק ופפסי. השופט סירב להצעה.
A murder defendant in a US courtroom offers to plead guilty on one condition: he wants a cheesesteak meal. The judge warns him that the plea would mean admitting guilt and serving life in prison, but the defendant continues detailing his request.
The exchange appears in a Short published by Kan News, the news division of Israel's Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation. Wearing orange prison clothing, the defendant specifies a Philly cheesesteak with onions and mayonnaise, fries and a 20-ounce Pepsi. He argues that accepting his proposal would save the jury time and taxpayers money.
The judge says he has never heard such a request in nearly four decades in the profession. His answer is explicit: "I can't, obviously, give food to people to enter a plea."
Once it is clear the requested meal will not be provided, the defendant declines to enter the plea. "Don't want to open plea. Just pick the jury," he says. The hearing ends with the case continuing through the ordinary legal process, rather than with a guilty plea.
