Seawater washes onto roads in Chennai, damaged streets appear in Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry, and police move people away from exposed coastal areas. The scenes form the opening of India's Hindi-language New Delhi Television (NDTV) India report on Cyclone Arnab's impact.
In the October 28 bulletin, presented by Syed Suhail, meteorologist Gayatri Vani says the severe cyclonic storm has made landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The state faces the Bay of Bengal on India's southeastern coast, with Odisha immediately to its northeast.
The report shows Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewing conditions at a control center. S. S. Sudan, a deputy inspector general of the National Disaster Response Force, says 39 teams have been deployed across several states and the union territory of Puducherry. The force specializes in responding to natural and human-made disasters.
Along the coast, footage from West Bengal and Odisha shows police and local officials warning people and moving them away from vulnerable areas, including Puri beach. Later, reporter Ritik Mandal delivers an account from Gopalpur in Odisha, showing fallen trees and describing damage along the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coastline.
The bulletin also uses a map and an October 27-30 timeline to explain the storm's projected movement and effects beyond the coast. It discusses rain in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai warns of possible strong winds and rain in his state.
A separate segment examines economic damage and the effects on agriculture. Together with the coastal footage, it broadens the report beyond the landfall itself to the disruption facing roads, farms and communities in the storm's path.
