Após carta de Flávio, Marinho nega que haja provas de fraude nas eleições
Flávio Bolsonaro's campaign coordinator is drawing a distinction between challenging an election and declaring it fraudulent: Rogério Marinho says he cannot make the latter assertion without evidence.
In a press exchange carried by Brazil's CNN Brasil, the senator and Senate opposition leader responds to questions following Bolsonaro's letter alleging fraud. According to the broadcaster, Bolsonaro issued the letter after losing the presidential election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Marinho begins by defending the right to express frustration, then says an assertion of fraud requires proof. Asked whether he agrees that fraud occurred, he says he cannot affirm it because he has no evidence.
He nevertheless alleges abuse of economic power by the ticket of Lula and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. Marinho says roughly twenty legal actions have been filed against the ticket and calls for those matters to be investigated. The excerpt does not establish those allegations as findings.
As examples, he cites messages about debt forgiveness and social benefits following the presentation of the budget bill. He closes by advocating an end to reelection, arguing that economic abuses have compromised the existing model.
The distinction matters within Bolsonaro's own campaign: Marinho does not endorse the fraud claim, but continues to contest how the campaign was conducted.
