Trump diz que Lula pediu que ele não tomasse partido na eleição brasileira
Donald Trump points to Brazil's financial market to support his criticism of its presidential election, while insisting he did not take sides in the contest.
Speaking outdoors into microphones on October 29, the U.S. president says: "I watched the election. I didn't take sides. I let it be." He then says Brazil's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, asked him not to intervene on either side.
Brazil's CNN Brasil reports that Trump supplied no details or evidence for the account. The broadcaster describes Lula as the election winner and says the United States had not officially recognized or congratulated him on that victory.
Trump calls the election "a very great embarrassment to the people of Brazil" before invoking the market: "Well, the market says it. Just take a look at the market." He says it fell sharply, but the clip supplies no index, period or figures with which to assess that assertion.
The excerpt therefore captures both parts of his position: a stated refusal to take sides and an explicit condemnation of the election. It contains no specific evidence of electoral wrongdoing.
Brazil’s president since 2023, commonly known as Lula. A member of the Workers’ Party, he also held the presidency from 2003 to 2011.
