CATL's 15-year truck battery keeps Ziroth's factory tour moving
Ryan Inis Hughes got inside CATL's plant for the Tectrans II, a battery built to carry trucks 1,000 km, and it passed 270,000 views in eight days.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
It's Here! The 15-Year Battery Hits Mass Production
No new uploads, no panic. Ziroth, Ryan Inis Hughes's channel about the engineering behind a zero carbon future, took the week off, and three recent videos kept the lights on.
The newest of them is the eight-day-old trip to CATL. The Chinese battery giant opened its factory for a look at the Tectrans II, a truck battery sold with a 15-year warranty and billed as good for 1,000 km on a charge. Hughes argues that the economics, more than the policy, could push trucking toward electric faster than expected. The description is upfront that CATL paid for production and supplied fact-checking and interviews while leaving the final edit to him.
Beside it sit two older engineering stories. A 44-day-old video on Helix's compact 950hp motor, whose trick is unusually aggressive cooling, is nearing 850,000 views and still draws the most daily viewers of anything on the channel. A look at BEI's anode-free cell, which crosses 500 Wh/kg with independent tests to back it up, has passed half a million.
Without a fresh upload, daily views ran well under the channel's usual pace, and the subscriber count barely moved. Among science channels of similar size, Astrum Earth and NileRed Extra had the big weeks. Ziroth still added the third-most views of the group, close to half a million, from a back shelf of motors and batteries.

The anode-free battery in Ziroth's video relies on which metal being plated during charging?
Anode-free cells use a lithium-ion chemistry and form a lithium metal layer on the copper current collector when the cell is first charged.
