1.5°C overshoot, AI and #TeamHuman: Simon Clark's three uploads
The UN's Limiting Overshoot report gave the week's most watched video its subject, and passed 140,000 views.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
We’re going to overshoot 1.5°C of warming...
Three days old, a short title with a hashtag on the end, and "We're near a tipping point with AI... #TeamHuman" is the video carrying Simon Clark's channel right now. It has no description to explain itself, but the title borrows a phrase every climate viewer knows, and it is drawing several times more views a day than either of the week's two climate videos.
Those two are the core of what Simon does. The atmospheric physicist, who took his PhD at the University of Exeter, opened the week with "We're going to overshoot 1.5°C of warming...", built on the UN's Limiting Overshoot report. Its question is whether that overshoot is really news, and whether it changes the case for tackling climate change at all. It is the week's most watched upload, past 140,000 views. Underneath it, viewers keep returning to one idea: every tenth of a degree still matters, so giving up makes no sense. Others offer analogies, a fever, a car braking late, and one thanks him for pointing at himself when he said "communicators."
The next day came "How we proved the internet still cares about climate change," whose description promises simply that he has receipts.
Taken together, the channel ran well above its usual daily pace, with close to 450,000 views over the week. Among science channels near its size, Just Have a Think, the climate and energy channel, is having a far bigger week than usual. Konstantin's channel is much quieter than its norm.

What viewers say
2 degrees in a human body is the difference between baseline and having a fever. I don't want our entire planet to have a fever.
@KasedaFromMinecraftSee it on YouTubeAs bad as 1.5 is I certainly wouldn't want to be at 2 right now.
@MysteriousSoulreaperSee it on YouTubeI appreciate the touch of you pointing to yourself when you said "communicators". Many short-form communicators present themselves as though they're the researchers and experts
