Morley survived on beer and garlic bread, authorities say
WKRN News 2's follow-up to the prisoner's capture describes a farm hideout, an apologetic note and the stolen truck that became stuck in mud.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 59,536 views a day, 103 times a normal first day on this channel (577).
Tennessee murderer survived on beer, garlic bread during escape
Jacob Morley's route from a Tennessee prison to his arrest in Missouri included hiding in a hunters' shed and leaving behind a handwritten apology, according to WKRN News 2's report. Authorities also describe what he lived on during the escape: garlic bread and beer.
The report adds details to the capture we reported here earlier. Reporter Payton Kennedy says Morley was serving a life sentence for murder when he escaped from Northwest Correctional Complex on October 25.
According to the report, Morley stole a truck, abandoned it in Marion, Illinois, and sheltered in a shed on a nearby farm. Investigators say he then took another truck, clothing and three firearms, leaving an apologetic note behind.
Police spotted him driving on I-70 near Kansas City on November 3. A helicopter and roadside cameras helped locate him before his truck became stuck in mud. Deputies say they recovered three firearms and that Morley admitted to escaping. The report says he was awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
WKRN's Short drew more than 32,000 views in its opening hours, far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience for that format. A separate upload carrying almost the same title also drew an unusually large early audience.
