The new episode landed a week after the series' Chael Sonnen chapter, which has passed 450,000 views.

How does mutual respect turn into a brawl beyond the Octagon? VICE TV's sports documentary series Dark Side of the Cage, back for its second season, spends its newest episode answering that about Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. It runs from their parallel rises to the UFC 223 bus attack and on to the October 2018 lightweight title fight in Las Vegas, where Khabib won by fourth-round submission and the chaos spilled over the fence. People close to both fighters do the telling.

It reached about 135,000 views in its first day, far ahead of anything else the channel posted among eleven uploads. Two short teasers set it up earlier in the week, one about the days when the pair still respected each other, but neither drew much of a crowd. The full episode did.

Oddly, episode 2 arrived after episode 3. That one, a portrait of Chael Sonnen, the self-styled Bad Guy whose trash talk built his years against Anderson Silva, is eight days old and still the channel's second-busiest video, with Silva, Randy Couture and Big John McCarthy among its interviews.

Outside the cage, the week turned to television history: a clip on Lorne Michaels and Chris Farley, a look at Maury Povich's place among talk-show hosts, and a segment on the final hours of Heath Ledger. Among the networks and streamers nearest it in size, E! News and Apple TV are the ones running well above their usual pace, while HBO Max is quieter than normal.
