Small modular reactors meet the solar math on Undecided
Matt Ferrell's one new video works through TerraPower, NuScale and the scarce HALEU fuel that small reactors depend on, and it passed 200,000 views on its first day.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
How Solar Is Beating Nuclear's Best Idea
Matt Ferrell put out a single video, and he aimed it at one of the most hyped ideas in energy. "How Solar Is Beating Nuclear's Best Idea" takes on small modular reactors, the compact, factory-built plants pitched as nuclear's way back into the mainstream, and tags names like TerraPower and NuScale along the way.
The chapters lay out the argument. There is "The Big If," a stop at the fuel problem (the tags point to HALEU, the more enriched uranium many advanced designs need), a comparison of small reactors with big ones, and a closing section called "The SMR Reality." The title already says where he lands. It fits the channel's habit of running the numbers on a big promise, the same approach he took a couple of weeks ago with China's giant compressed-air battery in a salt cavern.
The new video took off fast, with more than 200,000 views in its first day, and it lifted the whole channel to roughly three times its usual daily views. The older uploads are ticking along quietly behind it. The air battery video is closing in on a million, and "The Hidden Problem With Home Batteries" has passed 1.3 million.
Among the science channels near Undecided in size, Scott Manley and Chris Boden are both having big stretches, while Animagraffs is running a little below its usual pace.

NuScale, named in the video's tags, was the first company to get U.S. regulatory design approval for what?
In 2020 the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved NuScale's design, the first small modular reactor design to receive that approval.
