Boiling water that isn't hot keeps JaDropping Science bubbling

The two-week-old experiment has passed 8.7 million views, with a soap dispenser explainer from nine days ago behind it.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Is this boiling water hot? (No!)Is this boiling water hot? (No!)

JaDropping Science posted nothing new this week, and the channel hardly needed to. The amateur scientist and mechanical engineering graduate already had a riddle doing the rounds: "Is this boiling water hot? (No!)", fifteen days old and past 8.7 million views.

The title gives away the answer, which is part of the fun. Water boils whenever its vapor pressure matches the pressure around it, so lower the pressure enough and it will bubble away at a temperature you could put your hand in. It is a classic piece of physics that looks like a magic trick, exactly the kind of thing this channel likes to turn into a short, cheerful demonstration.

It is not working alone. "Never let this happen to you again...", posted more than five weeks ago, has passed ten million views and is still drawing well over a hundred thousand a day. The newest of the three, "The Clever Way Soap Dispensers Work!", is moving more gently, a reminder that the everyday mechanisms are as much a part of the channel as the spectacular ones.

Among the science and experiment channels of similar size, Deep Look is having the busy stretch, running at nearly twice its usual daily pace. Dr Ben Miles and Max Velocity's weather channel are drawing the biggest daily audiences of the group, while Captain Disillusion keeps to a quieter rhythm. JaDropping Science sits in the middle of the group by subscribers, with close to two billion lifetime views behind it.
