Five everyday choices, one carbon footprint, and BBC Earth Science's busiest upload

What we eat, wear, drive and do at home is the subject of the channel's newest explainer, which passed 190,000 views in three days.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

"5 Everyday Choices With A Surprising Impact On The Planet" is a short guide to the carbon footprint hiding in ordinary life: food, clothes, cars and the things we do at home. It is on BBC Earth Science, the BBC Studios channel whose about text promises the unusual, the unseen and the unexplained. This one is closer to the kitchen table than to the unexplained, and it is the one people picked.

It had a decent first day, then sped up rather than settling. Three days in, it is drawing views several times faster than anything else on the channel, and the whole channel is running at about double its usual daily pace.

The rest of the five uploads looked up. Jupiter got the story of how it formed and why it gathered so many moons, and it is the week's second-busiest video. Before that came the old question of where the Moon came from, which the description admits is still not settled, and a ride on a flying observatory that climbs above almost all of Earth's atmosphere to catch light the eye cannot see. The newest, barely half a day old, asks whether a fire-breathing robot could help fight wildfires.

An older companion is still doing quiet work too: a 35-minute Mars compilation from twelve days ago, past 300,000 views.

Among the science channels near it in size, Chris Boden and Scott Manley are having the biggest weeks, both far above their usual pace, as is Undecided with Matt Ferrell. Animagraffs is a little quieter than normal.
