Brian Lilley asks whether Quebec's third-place party is the real winner
His conversation with Quebec commentator Marc-Olivier Fortin ran far ahead of everything else the Toronto Sun posted the same day, including two other Lilley Unleashed segments.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 119,365 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (9,046).
LILLEY UNLEASHED: Is the 3rd place finisher the big winner in Quebec election?
Brian Lilley's latest Lilley Unleashed starts from a question that only makes sense the morning after an election: can the party that finished third be the one that won? The Toronto Sun's political columnist put it to Marc-Olivier Fortin, a Quebec political commentator, as the province's results came in. The title never names the party, but the tags point to the cast: Éric Duhaime of the Conservative Party of Quebec, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon of the Parti Québécois, and Québec solidaire.
The conversation passed 48,000 views in its first seven hours, several times what a new Sun video usually gathers in a full day. It also left its neighbors well behind. Lilley's take on Doug Ford and drug treatment data and Lorne Gunter's column on Alberta separatists, both posted the same day, each sat near 10,000. Quebec's vote, it seems, carried well beyond the province.
Last week Lilley was wondering whether Mark Carney might call a snap federal election, as we reported here. This time his federal readers are doing the connecting. Much of the comment section is about the Conservatives' showing in Quebec. Several viewers bring federal leader Pierre Poilievre into it, others write in from Alberta, and a few ask where the Parti Québécois's referendum plans now fit.
The comments had already passed a usual full first day in under a third of the time.
