Woodland Caribou with sherpa Kyle: Joe Robinet's fly-in trip carries a pause
Part 2 of the annual canoe week in northwestern Ontario is nearing 100,000 views, with Part 1, "The Burnt North," right behind it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
A Week in the Wilderness - A Fly-in Canoe/fishing Trip
What do you watch on Joe Robinet's channel when nothing new goes up? The answer is his annual canoe trip with Kyle, the buddy he calls his sherpa, told in two parts over the past three weeks.
The second part, "A Week in the Wilderness - A Fly-in Canoe/fishing Trip," is thirteen days old and doing the most work by a wide margin, drawing more than twice the daily views of the first. That first part, "The Burnt North" A One Week, Fly-in Camping Trip, explains its own nickname: the burnt north is Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, the stretch of lakes and fire-scarred forest on Ontario's border with Manitoba where the two friends spend their trip each year. Tarps, cooking and fishing fill the tags, which fits a channel whose about page promises the failures along with the accomplishments.
Further down sits a lighter month-old short, "Scrambled O and his steak.," a friendly nod to fellow outdoor creator Scrambled O, whose steak, the description says, made the internet laugh.
The channel as a whole is running a little below its usual pace, and subscribers held level. Among outdoor channels of similar size, the big weeks belong to Nate Petroski and Ace Videos, while The Wooded Beardsman is also a touch quieter than usual. For a man who describes himself as just a regular Canadian guy, two parts of the same canoe week are carrying the channel.
