Butternut Squash Pasta
Two shorts, both comfort food. Thee Burger Dude, the channel built on showing meat eaters that burgers, mac n' cheese and fried chick'n can be made from plants, spent his week on two cozy recipes, and the pasta came first in more ways than one.
"Butternut Squash Pasta" went up on October 3 and passed 190,000 views in three days. The comments read like a recipe swap. The most liked one simply repeats his line about adding "just a touch" of nutritional yeast, a joke regulars seem to enjoy. Others suggest tarragon, a whole sweet potato or boiled cashews in place of nut milk, and several point out that supermarkets sell the squash already cubed. One viewer says she made it for dinner the same night. A few keep replaying one moment, hunting for a demon in the blender.
"Marry Me Butter Beans" arrived a day later and drew about 71,000 views in its first 24 hours. The name borrows from the "marry me" craze of creamy, sun-dried-tomato dishes. Behind both sits a ramen short from his "Tofu for Meat Heads" series. Ten days old, it has passed 650,000 views and is still finding people.
The channel as a whole ran a good deal slower than usual. Most cooking channels near its size were also below their usual pace. Even so, only TFTI BBQ came close to Thee Burger Dude's daily views, and that cushion belongs to a channel whose fans keep cooking along.
