Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has joined criticism of a television experiment that kept comedian Rasmus Wallbridge unaware he was the subject of a hidden-camera show for months, Germany's ARD news service tagesschau reports.
Presenter Felix Edeha explains that Wallbridge believed he was being given the opportunity to develop his own feature film. In reality, around 150 friends, acquaintances and celebrities were participating in an elaborate prank that lasted four months.
The resulting series, "Alle elsker Rasmus," meaning "Everybody Loves Rasmus," aired on Danish broadcaster TV 2. According to the report, Wallbridge learned the truth only in the final episode.
Edeha describes widespread criticism in Denmark, with critics calling the treatment bullying and some describing it as psychological violence. The report says Frederiksen also criticized the production, while others have demanded personnel consequences.
TV 2 has apologized to Wallbridge, removed the series from its online service and announced an internal review, the report says.
The video ends with Wallbridge's own response on Instagram: he says he cannot yet comment at length and advises the broadcaster to stop making formats of this kind.
Denmark’s prime minister since 2019 and leader of the Social Democrats since 2015.
