Trump doesn’t want future presidents to touch his Oval Office decor
Gold eagle statues, fireplace medallions and cherubs brought from Mar-a-Lago are among the White House decorations Donald Trump wants future presidents to leave alone.
The president has signed a proclamation that he says would designate the Oval Office and Cabinet Room as national landmarks, according to the United States' Cable News Network (CNN). Its report, "Trump doesn't want future presidents to touch his Oval Office decor," presents the measure as an effort to preserve the changes he has made since returning to office in early 2025.
Before-and-after images show the alterations to the president's working office. Close-ups pick out gold vermeil figurines and ornate Rococo mirrors, while Cabinet Room footage shows the neighboring meeting space also covered by the document.
The report places the signing alongside Trump's other construction activities in Washington, including footage of him meeting workers at the White House ballroom project. The broadcaster says the ceremony was his third construction- or renovation-related event of the week, following sweeping Republican midterm losses.
The administration will send the document to Congress, the narrator says. The broadcaster has asked the White House about the proclamation and Trump's intentions; the report does not explain what legal restrictions, if any, it would impose on a future president.
