Height, entry and a 'change the jury' joke under Sam Fricker's dives
Two shorts posted on the same day under the same plain title, "Sam Fricker diving," each drew close to ten times what a new Sam Fricker short usually gets on its first day.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 63,408 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (5,634).
Sam Fricker diving
Sam Fricker does not dress up his titles. The Australian diver, who competed at the Tokyo Olympics, posts his dives under four words, "Sam Fricker diving," and lets the board do the rest.
Two of those shorts went up together, and both ran far ahead of a normal start. The busier one passed 60,000 views in its first 23 hours, where a new short on this channel usually ends its first day nearer 6,000. Its twin, posted the same day, came close behind. A third dive under the same title had a more ordinary day, so the pull seems to lie in the particular jumps rather than in the label. The channel as a whole had a slightly quieter day than usual.
The comments came in about four times faster than on a typical first day, and they stay close to the dive itself. One viewer thinks his height makes every entry look more dramatic. Another wonders why he always seems to have a crowd around the pool, and a third, half joking, wants the judges replaced. Several write in Spanish.
The newest uploads keep the mix he showed in September: another dive, a scooter clip, a return to Mykonos, and a short crowned with a fellow diver's name, Coby Watts.
