Dexter Morgan's decorating ideas are best kept to himself

Rotten Tomatoes TV's season-two sneak peek turns a landlord's friendly advice into a glimpse of Dexter's much less welcoming dream home.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 169,032 views a day, 20 times a normal first day on this channel (8,626).

A ceramic cat is about the only personal touch in Dexter Morgan's apartment, and his landlord thinks he can do better. Unfortunately, asking Dexter to express himself through interior decorating opens up some distinctly alarming possibilities.

The Dexter: Resurrection scene, posted by clips channel Rotten Tomatoes TV, passed 110,000 views in 11 hours, an unusually fast start for its short uploads. It previews the second season's opening episode, listed for October 30 on Paramount+.

Michael C. Hall's Dexter receives a visit from landlord Blessing, played by Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine. "A man's home should reflect who he truly is," Blessing tells him. Dexter's imagination obliges: blood-spatter artwork, plastic-wrapped furniture and mounted knives transform the room into somewhere Blessing probably wouldn't recommend to prospective tenants.

Back in the actual apartment, Dexter offers the much safer explanation that work has left him little time to decorate. Hall keeps the conversation politely awkward, even as Dexter's inner voice supplies the word "monster" halfway through his attempt to describe himself as neat.

The comments pick up on that split between pleasant small talk and murderous imagination. Viewers draw comparisons with the original series and New Blood, while several single out Dexter's smiles and his closing response to the suggestion that he needs a hobby: "I have no problem killing time."
