'To The Sun And Back': a borrowed disc and a big throw for RIP Disc Golf
The September 30 short has passed a million views, and its comment section is busy rating the thrower's run-up and joking about whose discs keep disappearing.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
To The Sun And Back
"To The Sun And Back" is a few seconds of one very long disc golf throw, and it is the most watched of seven shorts RIP Disc Golf posted over the seven days. It has passed a million views. The title promises distance and little else, which is the house style here: "Got it by a Mile🤯", "6 Bills💵", "Bro Almost Left Us Stranded".
The comments do the explaining. Viewers say the thrower went all out, and one compares her to Glenn Phillips, the New Zealand cricketer known for diving catches. Another breaks the effort into a scorecard for throw, run and jump. A running joke follows the man behind the camera, who seems to keep handing over his own discs despite telling everyone else not to. And more than one viewer feels obliged to point out that this is a disc, not a boomerang.
The freshest short has picked up the pace. "She is MASSIVE", posted on Tuesday, drew more views in its first fifteen hours than most of the week's uploads did in their first day, a follow-up to "Is He MASSIVE?" from a few days earlier. Still humming underneath is "Bro Threw it a BILLION Feet", two weeks old and closing in on five million.
The whole channel ran below its usual daily pace, yet it still added around 40 million views, more than any of the sports channels nearest it in size, DP World Tour included. It also gained 11,000 subscribers. For a disc golf channel built on single throws, the far end of the field keeps getting the attention.
