Ten million views for a beginner's do's and don'ts on ice

Niklaus prosper's three-week-old beginner short passed 10 million views, while four new uploads ran from stops to waltz jumps to leg day.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Among sports channels close to his size, Niklaus prosper sits fourth by subscribers and third by views added over the seven days, behind only RIP Disc Golf and DP World Tour. That place comes mostly from one short. "What you should and shouldn't do if you're a beginner" is 22 days old and has passed 10 million views, and it still pulls in more viewers each day than everything else on the channel combined.

The four new uploads stayed close to what the about page promises: tricks, stops and tutorials. "Different levels of stopping on ice" returned to a favorite theme, after a September ranking of stops from easiest to hardest. "Who had the best waltz jump on ice" borrowed from figure skating. The waltz jump is the half-rotation forward takeoff most skaters learn before any other jump. And "How I train the legs that skate the ice" took the channel off the rink and into the gym.

The best start belonged to "10 tips you need to know if you're beginner," a natural follow-up to the big hit. Its comment section mostly turned into the usual race to be first, with a few viewers rolling their eyes at the race. One cheerful non-skater says even the tips wouldn't save them from a pile of injuries.

The channel overall is running well below its usual daily pace as the big short slowly cools, and the new subscriber count moved only a little. Ten million views for a list of do's and don'ts is still a fine thing to be cooling down from.

  • genuinely who cares if they're first, second, third, etc. Btw cool video, I don't skate tho, I'd get about 500 injuries even if I followed your instructions :)
