Colin Kaepernick, ten years on, and Kenya Barris's $100M walkaway on Rich Roll

The former 49ers quarterback came on to talk about his new memoir, The Perilous Fight, and Malcolm Gladwell sat in for the week's second long conversation.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Six uploads, but really two conversations and the clips cut from them. The first belonged to Colin Kaepernick, who came on with his memoir The Perilous Fight. Ten years after he first took a knee during the national anthem as quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, he walks Rich Roll through his childhood, his sense of a dual identity, what he calls the NFL's power dynamic, and a chapter about a premonition he had in fourth grade. The chapter list ends with him saying he is still training for the NFL and adding a message to the league.

The full episode passed 17,000 views within a few days. Then came the newcomer with the bigger start. On Wednesday Roll sat down with Malcolm Gladwell and Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-ish, who host the podcast The Unusual Suspects together. The title leads with the nine-figure Netflix deal Barris walked away from, and the chapters move from Richard Pryor to a 7am phone call from Ted Sarandos to Gladwell's case that the podcast is the new magazine. Not a day old, it is already the channel's busiest video.

An episode from eleven days ago is still in the mix: Bryan Johnson and Kate Tolo, the pair at the center of the Netflix documentary Don't Die, have now passed 87,000 views.

Overall the channel held its usual pace, around 73,000 views a day. Among the podcast channels near its size, Tim Ferriss is running well above his norm and Stiff Socks is having a very big stretch, while Colin and Samir are a little quieter than usual.
