Shawn Ryan sits across from Steven Bartlett as subscribers arrive at fourteen times the usual pace
The former Navy SEAL's long conversation about Colombia, ibogaine and faith opened at more than eleven times a usual first day, while the channel's overall daily views stayed close to normal.
Why this story? The channel is adding 100,039 subscribers a day, 14 times a normal day (7,286).
"Shawn Ryan: There's A Battle For Your Soul, It's Happening Right Now" is the newest full episode of The Diary Of A CEO. For an hour and a half, Steven Bartlett talks with the former Navy SEAL and CIA contractor who went on to build The Shawn Ryan Show, one of the best-known independent podcasts. One podcast host interviewing another is not a common booking.
The chapters cover a lot of ground. Ryan talks about what separates a SEAL from the rest of the military and about Operation Red Wings. He answers questions on Trump and the 2028 election. Then the conversation turns personal: his move to Colombia after his contracting years, the depression the description says often follows elite service, therapy he found hard to begin, and an ibogaine treatment. Ryan describes what he saw during that treatment as hell. In his telling it was emptiness and fear, and it changed how he sees faith. Later chapters reach exorcism, his family and sponsors who walked away.
The episode passed 1.3 million views in under a day, on a channel where a new episode usually opens far lower. A short clip from it was also among the uploads posted the same day.
The bigger change was in subscribers. About 100,000 people a day were signing up, close to fourteen times the usual rate, even though the channel's total daily views held near their normal level. Did Ryan's own audience follow him over? Perhaps. His own channel is having a strong stretch as well. The Druski episode, as we reported here, came only a few days earlier.
