"I Got ATTACKED": Avi Yemini at a Melbourne vigil held on October 7
The Rebel News correspondent's Short from outside the State Library passed 100,000 views in 18 hours, and its comment section is busier than any of his recent Shorts.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 117,035 views a day, 8 times a normal first day on this channel (14,660).
I Got ATTACKED at a Hamas Vigil on Oct 7
Avi Yemini, who calls himself the chief Australian correspondent for Rebel News, spent the third anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel outside Melbourne's State Library. Pro-Palestinian activists had chosen that date for a vigil. He went in as an openly Jewish journalist, and his Short from the evening is titled "I Got ATTACKED at a Hamas Vigil on Oct 7".
In the description, Yemini says people at the vigil turned violent. He also says that police, instead of making arrests among them, threatened to arrest him. He writes that he came with six bodyguards and needed all of them. The clip is a preview. The description says the full video follows.
The day's coverage did not begin with the Short. Yemini also streamed the vigil live, under the title "LIVE: They Chose OCTOBER 7 for a 'Vigil for Gaza'", and that broadcast has drawn a solid audience of its own. A second Short from the same day, "He picked the WRONG security", is not far behind it. The preview is still the clip that went furthest, with roughly eight times the views of one of his usual Shorts on its first day.
The comments came even faster. In under a day they reached many times the number his Shorts usually collect, and most of them are about how the police handled the scene, not about the vigil.
