Search teams with dogs are combing mountain paths around Jiufen, Taiwan, for a Japanese tourist who has been missing for more than a week, Japan's Nippon Television News (日テレNEWS) reports.
The man, in his 70s, became separated from his wife during a group tour on October 29. He did not return to the meeting point. The report, broadcast on November 6, shows dozens of searchers continuing to look for him.
Security-camera footage shows him walking briskly down a slope. According to Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS, whose reporting appears in the segment, cameras last recorded him near a hiking trail entrance about an 11-minute walk from the tour's meeting point. The report does not establish where he went afterward.
Jiufen is a former gold-mining town in New Taipei City, northeast of Taipei, known for its lanterns, teahouses and winding shopping lanes. The footage also shows the less familiar terrain beyond the tourist streets: a steep trail entrance and mountains obscured by fog.
A local shopkeeper interviewed by Taiwanese media urges visitors to stay together, describing the town's numerous stairways and tangled routes. Citing Taiwanese media, the report says three missing-person reports have been filed there this year; it does not say whether the other people were found. The search for the Japanese visitor remains ongoing in this report.
