Notre Dame's lost sound, rebuilt after the fire, returns to What the Physics?!
Athena Brensberger's January episode on the cathedral's acoustics got a second outing, alongside a NOVA story about treating cystic fibrosis before birth.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Does Notre Dame Still Sound the Same? | What the Physics?!
"Does Notre Dame Still Sound the Same?" is an episode of What the Physics?!, the science series hosted by Athena Brensberger, and NOVA put it back up on October 1 after first publishing it in January. The question is one most people never think to ask. When fire tore through the cathedral in 2019, the stone and glass were not the only things at risk. The famous echo of the place was too, and the episode follows the experts who set out to bring it back. In its second life it gathered views faster than anything else NOVA posted all week.
The week's most watched upload was a very different story. "Can You Stop a Genetic Disease Before a Baby Is Born?" follows Stephanie, a mother whose baby, Hazel, was treated for cystic fibrosis before birth, and the medicine that may change how the disease is treated in the womb. Many viewers tell of friends and relatives they lost to CF years ago, and much of the conversation turns to insurance and to how hard the family had to push.
The Chauvet Cave documentary from last week is still drawing the biggest daily crowd on the channel, and a new short on the same 36,000-year-old paintings joined it. Across the channel, views are running about half again above a normal day, with 1.5 million in seven days. Among documentary channels of a similar size, Brandon Buckingham and Channel 4 Documentaries are both having lively weeks, and NOVA sits third for views gained.
