British Pathé marked an anniversary it had covered the first time around. "Nuremberg Trial Verdicts - 80 Years On" is cut from a newsreel called End of the Fuehrers. The tags name Hermann Göring and Wilhelm Keitel, two of the defendants in the dock when the International Military Tribunal delivered its judgments on October 1, 1946. The clip arrived two days before the anniversary and drew close to ten thousand views in its first day.
The other upload stayed in that same year. "UK Pensions in 1946" is a short about the pension policies of the new welfare state, from the period when the National Insurance Act took Britain from wartime rationing toward cradle-to-grave cover. A newsreel about pension rules sounds like the drier half of the pair, but it has been gathering views a little faster than the trial, and the two now sit almost level.
Older films are quieter. The busiest of them is a month-old archive highlight of Crown Prince Harald of Norway's 1968 wedding to Sonja Haraldsen. The description calls it a tribute and recalls how controversial the match was because of her commoner background. It moves along gently, well behind the two new clips.
Among documentary and journalism channels of a similar size, the busy stretch belongs to Nat Geo Animals and FRONTLINE PBS, both running above their usual pace, while Absolute History is having a slower spell. British Pathé spent its week where it usually does, in 1946.
