Chinese EVs, Pattaya and Papua New Guinea: Journeyman's Australian-made week

Three of the four new uploads are previews of reports from Australian public broadcasters ABC and SBS, alongside a trailer for a documentary about Uyghur survivors.

Where did Journeyman Pictures find its new stories? Mostly in Australia. The independent distributor of factual TV posted four videos, and three of them preview reports made for the country's two public broadcasters.

The newest, "Asleep at the Wheel," is an ABC report on the growing number of Chinese electric vehicles on Australian roads. Its description says some cabinet ministers drive them, and experts warn that the country's privacy and cybersecurity laws leave drivers exposed. It drew close to 2,000 views on its first day, more than the other three gathered in theirs. From SBS's Dateline comes a helicopter team bringing urgent medical care across Papua New Guinea. ABC's Foreign Correspondent sent Karishma Vyas to Pattaya in Thailand, where she spoke with sex workers, police and tourists after the killing of a teenage girl. The fourth upload is the trailer for "All Static & Noise," which follows Uyghur survivors of China's re-education camps and their families across Turkey, Kazakhstan, Europe and the United States.

The channel's busiest video is older. Posted 27 days ago, "A Man in Chain" follows a household in rural Ghana organized around a man held to a tree for fourteen years, in a country where mental health care barely exists. It has passed 300,000 views. The trailer for "Kikuyu Land," about a Nairobi journalist looking into Kenya's colonial past, is also still drawing viewers.

Among documentary and journalism channels of similar size, BBC deepwatch and Real Wild are running above their usual pace, while Absolute History is quieter than normal.
