Shocking footage shows helicopters crash into each other in Nepal
One tourist was killed. Another passenger and both pilots were injured when two helicopters collided while landing at Pheriche helipad in Nepal, news.com.au reports.
The footage shows a helicopter approaching the snowy landing area while another hovers nearby. Their rotor blades strike, scattering debris and throwing up a cloud of snow as people run away. Both aircraft fall to the ground. Later, people approach the wreckage and gather around a red helicopter to help those inside.
According to the report, the aircraft were operated by Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty. The collision occurred in Solukhumbu, in Nepal's Everest region. Pheriche is a stop for trekkers and climbers, with a seasonal hospital run by the Himalayan Rescue Association.
The Short reached about 418,000 views in its first 20 hours, far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience for that format. A separate news.com.au report on the fatal Florida Learjet crash also drew an unusually large audience.
The Nepal clip includes a slow-motion replay and opens with a distressing-content warning. It reports that authorities have launched an investigation and are working to establish the total number of passengers aboard.
