News24 brings America's congressional count to an Australian morning audience
Its live results broadcast drew an unusually large audience alongside commentary on what a Democratic Congress could mean for Donald Trump.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 280,421 views a day, 31 times a normal first day on this channel (9,140).
AMERICA DECIDES: Midterm elections live results
Control of Congress is the focus, rather than a presidential contest. News24's "AMERICA DECIDES: Midterm elections live results" drew about 110,000 views in its first six hours, already far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience for longer videos.
The broadcaster, formerly Sky News Australia, scheduled its coverage for Wednesday morning in Australia, promising reporting from the United States and expert perspectives as Americans voted. All House seats and a portion of the Senate were being contested, with the results determining the shape of Congress during Donald Trump's second term.
Alongside the live count, News24 offered competing readings of what might follow. Democratic strategist Joel Rubin warned that winning both chambers could bring internal divisions, while host Samara Gill predicted Democrats would immediately target the Trump administration.
Gill's separate Unleashed episode, discussing Trump's threat to veto a Democratic agenda, also made a faster-than-usual start. The live results feed, however, drew substantially more views over the same opening hours.
The November 3, 2026 US elections, held during Donald Trump's second presidential term. All 435 House seats and 35 of the Senate's 100 seats were contested.
