A sloth on Kirk Road and White Sox tears before ALDS Game 3
Fifteen uploads went up, from a postseason first pitch by actor Belmont Cameli to the closing of a suburban IKEA.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
‘Something Worse’: Doctor raises concerns over Russian lab 'plague' incident
Chicago had baseball on its mind, and NBC Chicago followed it to Rate Field. Ahead of the White Sox's ALDS Game 3, the station filmed a sixth grader at Bridgeport Academy who could not hold back the tears, and Belmont Cameli, now billed as the actor from Off Campus and known to many from Peacock's Saved by the Bell revival, taking the mound for the first pitch. The superfan clip is moving faster than the celebrity one.
The week's most watched upload was more serious: a doctor's view of the plague case at a Russian lab. Dr. Landon says the response on the ground does not look like a typical case of pneumonic plague, while stressing there is no need to panic right now. It drew about 31,000 views in its first six hours.
Then there was the sloth. A viral clip shows one dangling upside down inside a moving car near Batavia, and the woman who filmed it says she spent ten minutes deciding whether it was real.
The channel ran slower than its usual daily pace, and subscribers held at 453,000. Even so, among the local stations near its size, only NBCLA gathered more views over the week, while FOX 32 Chicago, across town, kept close to its own normal rhythm.
