Mother questions balloons at children's parties after infant's death

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 69,698 views a day, 63 times a normal first day on this channel (1,100).
Mother warns parents of balloon dangers after toddler dies days before first birthday
A long balloon used to make animal shapes had unraveled when her son grabbed it and bit into it. Speaking to NBC Chicago, his mother describes how the balloon went into his throat, turning a children's celebration into an emergency.
The infant died following the accident at a trunk-or-treat event in Kenosha, Wisconsin, shortly before his first birthday. His mother recounts attempting CPR and trying to remove the balloon before paramedics' efforts were also unable to save him.
Regina Waldroup's report centers on the mother's warning about an object routinely handed out at children's events. She says warning labels are ignored and questions why balloons are produced for those occasions at all.
"Balloons are made for children's parties. I don't even think they should be producing balloons anymore," she says.
The report has passed 100,000 views, far beyond NBC Chicago's usual first-day audience of roughly a thousand for comparable videos. At its center, though, is a mother's account of the accident and her plea for parents to recognize the danger.
