A software update on the grid: the Bahrain GP in Malaysia, reviewed by Matt and Tommy

Formula 1 went back to Sepang for the first time in nine years, and the race review passed 450,000 views in under two days.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Matt and Tommy spent their weekend at Sepang, at least in spirit. The Bahrain Grand Prix, held in Malaysia this year, brought Formula 1 back to the circuit for the first time since 2017, and the pair covered it from every side: a qualifying reaction, a full watchalong, a race review, shorts in between and, on Monday, Matt working through the memes. Fifteen uploads in all.

The race review is the week's most watched, and its description promises software issues, wet weather, strategy failures and a P1 curse. The comment section explains the first one. Cars glitching out on the formation lap stretched the wait to an hour and a half, and viewers have turned it into a running joke about phone updates and engines that needed a bowl of rice. Others write from the grandstands: one counts themselves among the huge Sepang crowd, another says it was their first race ever, and several describe the roar when Lewis Hamilton made a pass. A few, too, connect a Red Bull win with its own engine to the memory of Dietrich Mateschitz.

The meme reaction is the fastest thing on the channel right now, running even quicker than the review did.

Daily views sat a little under the channel's usual pace, but the week still added about 7,000 subscribers. Among the motorsport and off-road channels near its size, none gathered more views over the seven days; dickfartjr had the hottest stretch of days at the end, and most of the others ran quieter than normal.
