Mat Armstrong chooses the Bay of Biscay over a shipping bill
His yacht's journey home accompanies a sharp jump in channel views, extending a restoration story that began with a non-running boat.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 9,451,838 views a day, 6 times a normal day (1,583,328).
ATTEMPTING TO SAIL THE MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN IN THE WORLD
Mat Armstrong's usual day already brings well over a million views. His channel has just drawn about 9.5 million in a day, roughly six times its normal daily audience, as his yacht project moves from finding faults to attempting the journey home.
The latest upload, "ATTEMPTING TO SAIL THE MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN IN THE WORLD", follows a decision with an expensive alternative. Armstrong says professionals had told him the boat was not safe enough to sail from Spain to the UK. Rather than pay for transport, he and the team set about doing enough work to prepare it for the Bay of Biscay.
As we reported here, getting the yacht ready involved more than solving its engine problem. That has given this restoration a different shape from his wrecked-car builds: the repairs are also preparation for bringing the project back to Britain.
The original yacht purchase is already his most-watched regular upload, ahead of his Porsche rebuild and Rolls-Royce projects. For someone whose channel description cheerfully admits he is not professionally trained, the move beyond the garage has become a substantial part of his appeal.
The fresh surge spans the whole channel, though, so it cannot be credited entirely to the sailing upload.
