Pokémon UNITE's 'Comeback Kings' carry Luminosity through a silent week

The Toronto esports organization posted nothing new, and a documentary on its road to the 2023 UNITE World Championships is still the video people find first.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Nothing new went up on Luminosity Gaming over the past seven days, so the channel ran on its archive. At the front of it sits "The Comeback Kings - Fight For Worlds," a behind-the-scenes film on the organization's Pokémon UNITE team, billed in the description as the reigning champions, chasing the 2023 World Championships. It is more than three years old, and it is still the video doing the most work.

Right behind it is a summer announcement, "LUMINOSITY IS BACK IN COUNTER STRIKE! ROSTER REVEALED!," which marked the club's return to the game after nearly seven years away. For a Toronto organization whose name is still tied to Counter-Strike history, it is a fitting second place. Further back, the channel's biggest recent hit, an episode of Luminosity Game Time with Jenny Smiles, NFL cornerback Kader Kohou and creator SpectreX building LEGO Marvel sets before a round of Marvel Rivals, has passed 340,000 views and still draws a few viewers each day.

The overall pace was slow. Daily views ran at about half the usual level, and the subscriber count held steady at 650,000. Among the game publisher and esports channels near its size, Luminosity added the fewest views this week. Rocket League Esports was the busy one, running above its usual pace, while Total War gathered more than a million views. For a channel with an empty upload slot, the old UNITE film kept the lights on.
