A turbo Pontiac Grand Prix from 1990 wakes up on Junkyard Digs

The rare McLaren-tuned sleeper, the car viewers kept spotting in the background of recent videos, passed 480,000 views in three days.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Is this TURBO 80's Sleeper still as FAST as Day 1 After 36 YEARS!?Is this TURBO 80's Sleeper still as FAST as Day 1 After 36 YEARS!?

One car, a big week. Junkyard Digs posted a single video, and it was enough to lift the whole channel to several times its usual daily views.

The car is a late-80s Pontiac Grand Prix, and not the ordinary kind. The tags point to the turbocharged version built with ASC and McLaren, a short-lived performance edition of GM's front-drive coupe with a turbo 3.1-liter V6. The question in the title is whether, after 36 years, it is still as quick as it was new. The description calls it a hidden gem put back on the road.

Long-time viewers had been waiting for it. One of the most liked comments notes that the car has been sitting in the background of recent videos, and the comment section reads like a shop meeting: former dealership mechanics recalling the injectors and fuel pressure regulators that gave these cars trouble, others offering transmission upgrades, and plenty of requests to race it against Dalton's Beretta or turn it into a full sleeper build. A cameo from Jesse, who declines to touch the engine, has its own fan club, as does the stand-in for Angus that viewers have nicknamed Dangus. Someone who works in the building where MotorWeek is made chimed in after the show got a mention.

The older uploads are resting: a barn-found Chevy and a seized 1963 Cadillac from September now move slowly. Among car channels of similar size, Auto Focus and Exotic Rubber had the busiest weeks, while Junkyard Digs sat in the middle of the group, its week built almost entirely on one Pontiac.
